A business suit, or something more relaxed?

If you’re only having one or two things made, start with what you’ll wear most.

It’s tempting to start with the most exciting piece, like a velvet jacket or a bold chalk stripe. Sometimes that’s right. But if this is your first made-to-measure order, it’s usually better to start with what you’ll wear every week.

If you wear a suit to work

Start with a suit in navy or charcoal. They go with almost any shirt and tie, they work for meetings and dinners, and a well-fitting one is noticed without being noticed. A second suit in grey, or a subtle check, doubles your options.

If you rarely wear a suit

A blazer with chinos or trousers will get far more use. A navy or grey check jacket works with jeans, chinos and odd trousers alike. Linen shirts and stretch chinos make sense in a warm climate.

If there’s an occasion

A wedding, a gala, an event. This is where a statement piece earns its place: velvet, a patterned jacket, a double-breasted cut. Plan it around the date, and tell us about the dress code.

If you want both

That’s what the packages are for. Modern Luxury is built around a blazer, overcoat, chinos and linen shirts; Executive Gentleman around two suits; Essential Tailoring around two jackets and three pairs of trousers to mix.

Tell us what your week looks like. The right first order usually follows from that.
